第三章
Tongue is like –
Bit 嚼環 (v.3) Rudder 舵 (v.4)
Spark 火 (v.5) Poison 毒氣 (v.8)
Water 水 (v.11) Tree 樹 (v.12)
Our words reflect our heart.
“For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” (太12:34)
“What goes into a man’s mouth does not make him ‘unclean,’ but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him ‘unclean.’” (太15:11)
“But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’” (太15:18)
“A fool’s lips bring him strife, and his mouth invites a beating.
A fool’s mouth is his undoing, and his lips are a snare to his soul. (箴18:6-7)
Remember –
1. My words Direct other people’s lives. (v. 3-4)
- your words can build up or tear down others. (箴15:4, 18:21, 25:11-12)
2. My words can Destroy people’s lives. (v. 6) (箴 12:18)
3. My words Displace who I am. (v. 9-12) (箴 4:23-24)
- your words reflect your heart.
Two different kinds of wisdom
Heavenly wisdom – allow us to see our lives as God sees them.
It always leads us to the right path and to make the right decision. (箴 3:6, 23)
It brings us happiness and blessing.
(箴 4:8-9, 10:22, 16:21)
Earthly pitfalls -
1. Superficiality vs. Substances (v. 17) (image) (character)
2. Comparison vs. Contentment (v. 14) (envy, prejudice) (unity)
3. Selfish ambition vs. God’s plan (v. 14) (pride) (humanity)
Embrace –
Purity -> integrity (pure hearted, fruits of the Holy Spirit)
Peace-loving -> reduce conflict (control our tongues)
Be compassionate -> Be impartial, gentle with mercy
Be sincere -> Be real (transparent) in life
How to get heaven wisdom -> 箴 3:5, 6:21-22, 9:10.
