Chapter 5 talked about –

財富Possession (1-6)

忍耐Patience (7-12)

禱告Prayer (13-20)

 

In Chapter 4, James asked us not to be a friend of the world (不與世俗為友), and warned us about boasting and pride. He continued his teaching and talked about worldly possessions and wealth in the beginning of Chapter 5.

1. 警告富足的人 (1-6)

Warning to rich oppressors:

財富 in - Things, stuff

Clothes (status) (路16:19)

Money (gold and silver)

金,銀 －》銹 －》 守財奴

 －》證明你們的不是 (Judgment Day)

－》虧欠工資, 不當手段賺錢 －》 for yourself

－》Self-indulgence (fattened you - v.5)

(太 6:19, 25:41-46, 路16:19-25)

 

錢財的祝福是由神而來的, 看我們怎樣運用. 富足並非不好，不好的是倚靠無定的錢財，以此自高自大，定睛在世上的財寶. 神樂意厚賜百物給祂的兒女，讓我們在世富足，能夠在主裡行善，甘心施捨，使我們在主裡成為富足，積財寶在天，審判時能站立得住.

2. 忍耐Patience, Perseverance (7-12)

 

·      Wait for God’s timing (v.7-8) 長期等候忍耐到主來

(詩27:14, 62:5-6, 傳3:1-11, 賽 55:8-9)

·      Patience in failure/disappointment (v.9) 在經歷困難失敗要忍耐

We tend to blame others during difficultiesà

容易埋怨別人à Judge others

(林前10:10, 腓 2:14, 西 1:11, 太 7:2)

·      Patience in suffering (v. 10-11) 在為義受苦時要忍耐

The life of Job (suffering is a process for us to learn, at the end there will be rewards)

(羅 5: 3-5, 12:19, 太 5:11-12)

·      Patience in mistrust (v. 12) 在被誤解不信任時要忍耐

When you’ve been mistrusted or misunderstood, hold your tongue.

We will be judged based on our words. (太12: 36-37, 詩 139:1-2)

3. 禱告Prayer of Faith (13-20)
· Pray for our emotion/feelings (腓4:6-7)
· Pray for our body/sickness
· Pray for others彼此代求 (約壹 1:7-9, 5:16, 弗 6:18)
· Pray for our country/society/world
   Use Elijah as the example. (王上 17-18, 提前 2:1-2)
· Pray for the spread of Gospel
   Use God’s love to spread the Gospel. (加6:1, 箴10:12, 帖後 3:1)
